Swell Festival Currumbin

The Swell Festival is my favourite event on the Gold Coast and I make sure I never miss it.  Each September make sure you add the Swell Festival to your calendar.

The Art

Swell is a festival celebrating art and sculpture.  The beach at Currumbin becomes the backdrop to the most amazing pieces of 3D art sculptures.  Once you find a park (this can be tricky on the weekend), head to the beach and let the kids loose to explore.  Remind them not to climb on the sculptures.  There are a few interactive pieces and all the art will inspire.  We love walking from one end of the beach where many pieces of art are then returning on the path where there are even more sculptures.  The Swell Festival also can be viewed later in the evening as most pieces are lit up.  Programs are available if needed with all the explanations of the art.

The View

We love to climb Elephant Rock once we have finished walking through the art.  The view from the top is incredible.  The kids love climbing the stairs to the top of the world.  You can see from one end of the Gold Coast to the other including Surfer’s Paradise.

Food

There are plenty of cafes and food trucks along the beach front at Currumbin.  Grab a takeaway coffee for your sculpture walk.  At the base of Elephant Rock is the Currumbin Surf Club which sits right over the water – a perfect lunch spot after Swell.

  1. I hadn’t previously heard of the Swell Festival but I can see why you like it. The beach is wonderful backdrop for all the interesting art pieces.
